Una raccolta “seria” di modi di dire siciliani, che include 500 locuzioni usate tutt’oggi sia da persone mature che dai giovani.
Il modo di dire è cosa diversa dal proverbio, e riduce a poche parole un concetto altrimenti più lungo a spiegarsi, pertanto è molto usato dai siciliani, abili a farsi comprendere e a comprendere con menza palora.
In questa raccolta i modi di dire sono stati suddivisi per tematica. Per ognuno sono state riportate la dicitura in dialetto e la traduzione letterale in italiano e in inglese, con la spiegazione del signi cato e dove possibile dell’origine.
Auspichiamo che questa lettura sia gradita anche ai più giovani, fra i quali l’uso del dialetto è ancora visto con di ffidenza, poiché nell’immaginario collettivo è accostato a poca scolarizzazione e cultura o viene ricondotto alla malavita, tutto il contrario di ciò che veramente è: Storia e Anima della Sicilia.
This is a “serious” collection of Sicilian sayings, including 500 expressions still in use, both by mature people and by younger people.
The common saying is di fferent from the proverb, and reduces to a few words an otherwise longer concept to explain, therefore it is widely used by Sicilians, able to be understood and understand with menza palora (half a word).
In this collection the sayings have been divided by type. For each, the wording in dialect and the literal translation into Italian have been reported, with an explanation of the meaning and where possible of the origin.
We hope that this reading will also be appreciated by the youngest, among whom the use of the dialect is still considered with distrust, since in the collective imagination it is combined with little education and culture or is compared to the under world language. Quite the opposite of what it really is: History and Soul of Sicily.
